Low carb diet helps resistance to flu Empty Low carb diet helps resistance to flu

This isnt really topic for this subforum but dont want to create one just for this as I mostly intend this as a thrifty tinker's forum. Might be of interest to some with current pandemic. https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/keto-diet-protects-mice-from-flu-66731

This is just observation, doesnt mean this extends to humans or anything. No wide scale blind study or anything.

I will just point out that when I went to low carb diet to deal with T2 diabetes, it had some side effects including me not having cold or flu since. It reduces inflammation and think that is big benefit as most disease causes inflammation. But if you notice in article there is no guarantee it will help. The regular diet mice all died when inoculated with H1N1 virus. But also notice HALF of the low carb diet mice died too.

They use term KETO which usually means a very very low carb diet, one with little plant based foods. Usually less than 40g carbs per day (for a human). I am on other hand what I call low carb and other than eggs and occasionally bit plain yogurt or cheese, mostly plant based. I eat maybe 100g to 150g carbs per day.

I will say I think keeping carbs under 200g per day is good for everybody. But unless you have the hard task master of diabetes to keep you honest, this is not easy. Foods in our society tend to be high carb. Grain based foods and starch fillers are cheap and highly profitable. Added sugar/starch is addictive and in EVERYTHING, short of raw produce and some meat products.
